It seems that the set of upcoming horror flick MaXXXine wasn't filled
only with fictional frights, but also real-life dread for one
extra.
Actress Mia Goth, famous for her roles in films X and Pearl, has been hit
with a lawsuit from a background actor, alleging the star intentionally
kicked him in the head during a take and then mocked him about it.
The claimant, James Hunter, came forward with his lawsuit last Friday,
laying bare his distressing experience on set last year. The suit targets
Goth, along with director Ti West and production company A24.
According to Hunter, during the late-night filming of a particular scene,
he had to lie on the ground for several hours, dressed in a robe and covered
head-to-toe in fake blood.
As a supposed dead body, he was subject to the natural elements and
crawling insects as the cameras rolled.
The sequence involved Mia Goth's character Maxine to sprint past the array
of bodies, including Hunter's. His role required him to remain inert as Goth
dashed past, supposedly casting a glance his way before continuing on her
cinematic flight.
Despite being repeatedly cautioned about stepping too close, Hunter claims
that the actress nearly stepped on him during initial
takes.
He alleges that on the following take, rather than taking heed, Mia
intentionally kicked him in the head with her boot, leading to neck
stiffness and severe pain.
Following this distressing incident, Hunter sought medical help and claims
to have been diagnosed with a concussion.
Astonishingly, he states no immediate medical help was provided on set
following the incident.
What adds a twist to this troubling tale is Hunter's assertion that Goth
sought him out later on in the bathroom.
Rather than offer apologies or express concern, she is alleged to have
taunted, mocked, and belittled him about the event, even daring him
to take action.
Goth's controversial past might seem like a screen from her horror
films.
Famously, she is married to actor Shia Labeouf, who faced a lawsuit for
abusing his ex-girlfriend, British singer FKA Twigs, and knowingly infecting
her with STDs.
Goth, interestingly, reconciled with Labeouf after the abuse came to light,
and the couple now share a child. With such grave allegations, the atmosphere surrounding MaXXXine has turned
noticeably eerie.
This Hollywood horror tale seems set to start a conversation regarding
actors treatment towards extras, and a possible abuse of power from bigger
stars at play.
